About a month ago, one of my Nigerian friends in Halifax told me he was contemplating planning a Nigerian get together before summer ends. He told me about the tentative date, Saturday August 19th and I told him it was my daughter’s 3rd birthday, hence we won’t be coming for the event as we would like to celebrate with our daughter in our own little way. He then suggested that it won’t be a bad idea to also celebrate our daughter’s birthday at the event, and we thought it was a good suggestion, so we decided to attend the event and also celebrate Nabeelah’s birthday in our little way. So for us, it would be a double celebration; the Nigerian get together and Nabeelah’s birthday. We initially didn’t plan a party for her birthday, the most we were hoping to do was to have a cake and have few friends come around for cake cutting.
So my Nigerian friend told other Nigerians and even some other Africans living in Halifax and environs about the proposed event and a number of people bought the idea and decided to be a part of it, so preparations kicked off. Shout out to the organizers and participants.
Another Nigerian girl, Zahra also clocked 6 that day, so it became a triple celebration; the Nigerian get together, Nabeelah’s 3rd birthday and Zahra’s 6th birthday.
Though the weather wasn’t so favourable as the organizers had to change the venue from Atlantic Playland (a water parks) to Bowlarama (a bowling centre) because of the rain that went on all day. However, we still tried to make the best of the day.
The event went on on one side of the venue, while the birthday celebrants had their celebration in another corner. In all, it was a beautiful day, as the kids did bowling, played games and there was different kinds of food and drinks, kudos to the organizers and participants.
My best meal was this fish, chicken and chips as each family was given one home by the organizers, I couldn’t really eat much at the event but this delicious fish and chips was our dinner. There was also asun, which I also loved.
Happy birthday to my darling daughter, Nabeelah once again and happy birthday to pretty Zahra. May Allah bless you both.
Special greetings and gratitude to everyone who took time out to celebrate my daughter via phones calls, text messages, social media comments/likes/comments, prayers, gifts e.t.c. I appreciate the show of love. Words won’t be enough to fully thank and appreciate you all. I am very grateful. God bless you all. May celebration never cease in our homes by God’s grace. Thank you all so very much.
Ya Allah, thank you for granting our precious daughter yet another wonderful year. Please continue to bless and watch over her for us. Make her a positive force to reckon with and make her feet firm on the path of the Deen, ameen.
So we set out for the day. My husband was out of town on this day, so he missed 😊 and we also missed him. May we have many more fruitful celebrations together as a family by God’s grace.
At the venue: Bowlarama.
The delicious cake is from 24 Carrots and party packs from Party City. Nabeelah beautiful hair was made by my darling mummy Fiyi of life, my sweet neighbor and friend. Holla, if you need a hair stylist in Halifax. Mummy Fiyi is good like that, for both adults and kids’ hair.
Here are Nabeelah’s birthday cards that we forgot to place on the table by the cake. The one on the left was made by one of Nabeelah’s daycare teachers, she gave it to her the previous day, Friday when I went to pick her up. I love that it was handmade and I consider it very thoughtful. The daycare also had a small celebration for her on Monday, since her birthday was on a Saturday.
